BVY Renovations

Family owned, Fine Craftsmanship, Superior Service

BVY is built on reputation, reliability and the fine workmanship needed for hardwood flooring.  Bruce van Ysseldyk was raised on woodwork and this continues to be at the heart of BVY Renovations. But, Bruce’s craftsmanship has grown to include custom design work and complete interior projects (including trim work, staircases and interior painting).

Each job is unique and tailored to the customer’s needs, but in every job, customers benefit from years of experience, skill and careful attention to detail.

What to expect

Every job beings with a free quote and consultation. BVY will discuss your needs, preferences and concerns. Bruce will share his perspective, what the process would be, typical timing and any considerations for how best to do the project. And then, Bruce will follow up with a quote for you to consider.

The floor refinishing process

Many customers wonder about the floor refinishing process. The standard flow:

  1. Prep

Of course, the room(s) need to be cleared out to start. BVY can assist with this as-needed. This includes moving furniture, as well as removing carpet and trim or other prep needs.

  2. Sanding

BVY sands the floor, fills in any cracks with wood filler, then sands again.

  3. Cleaning

Even though there are dust catchers on the machines, BVY keeps cleaning during this process to keep the environment as dust-free as possible.

  4. Stain

3 different colors will be sampled on a portion of the sanded floor so you can actually see how the colors look and pick the one you like best. BVY applies three coats of the highest & best quality water-based polyurethane, allowing 2-3 drying time hours between applications.

  5. Sanding

When the polyurethane is thoroughly dry, BVY re-sands the floor again with high grid sandpaper to make sure it's smooth and then applies a 4th and final coat of polyurethane.

  6. Trim, Stairs, Interior Paint & More

After the floors are complete, BVY will move on to any additional projects.

The best part of all this is that you can stay in your own home during the entire refinishing process!

Testimonials

Bruce just finished my living room wood floor. It looks amazing. He patched and matched an existing floor and honestly, it’s hard to tell where the new floor begins and ends. This was an extremely difficult project and he is truly an artist! I highly recommend his work!
